Garments

When creating a vehicle of exploration, details are important. In the creation of this vehicle, I wanted to create an entirely new shape, and ended up with this. I placed metal wires in the collar, so that I could shape it, and frame it around my face as needed.

It explores the Historic Fillmore district in San Francisco as a space which holds memory for both the Japanese-American community, as well as the descendants of chattel slavery in this country, who moved to the Fillmore area, fleeing the Jim Crow violence of the American South, only to be indoctrinated into a slightly different form of legalized discrimination and segregation here in California.
